Sun Prairie Starts Their Season At UCA Milwaukee

Sun Prairie High School is ready to kick off their competition season this weekend at the UCA Milwaukee Championship in Wisconsin. 

SPHS, located in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, has been taking the competition mat since 2004, and they’ve worked their way up the ranks to become a top contender at the national championship in February. In 2017, Sun Prairie placed third in the medium coed division at the NHSCC.

The Cardinals always have a goal to perform a clean routine with great technique and execution.

“We are excited about the changes we’ve made this year,” said head coach Karen Sommers.

It really takes a village to make these visions a reality.

“From our choreography to the music, there are a lot of people working together to make the best end product possible,” she said. “We are lucky to have four coaches this season, who are all SPHS alumni, as well as supportive parents and administration involved in helping this team achieve their goals. ” 

​With the cheer being a crucial section of any championship routine, SPHS is working hard to make their cheer really shine on the mat.

“We have incorporated new elements, skills, and innovative choreography in our routine which we are very excited about,” Sommers said.​

The squad includes eight new members, most of whom will be taking the mat in their first ever cheerleading competition this weekend.

We have a young team this year, but that hasn’t stopped them from working hard and learning quickly. We are very proud of their determination and excited to see how the story of this team unfolds.
