The Varsity All Star Summer League is a great way to keep your athletes involved in all star all summer long! Athletes will learn compulsory routines provided by Varsity All Star and challenge other groups in live and virtual competitions. Routine options are available to help you maintain the social distancing and follow recommended guidelines in your area.
Summer League is a brand-new program developed for all star programs to bring in new athletes and keep your current athletes engaged over the summer months. Class and practice attendance in the summertime can be hit or miss between vacations and social distancing, but with Summer League, you simply use who you have, when you have them to learn and perfect the compulsory choreography and skills. Feel free to create teams with a mixture of athletes from different levels and ages to foster camaraderie and build a family atmosphere.
Summer League can be facilitated in your gym, at a local recreation facility, or even outdoors!
If your gym is not ready or able to stunt at this time, you have the option choose to use the choreography-only section to maintain a safe distance between athletes while still learning and having fun! Routines are broken down into 3 sections, and section 2 of each routine is the Choreography section. There are three videos of the Choreography section to show several views for easy learning. The stunts and/or baskets shown in these sections are optional so athletes can maintain a safe distance from one another.
Teams who wish to participate in Summer League matches must meet the minimum routine requirements listed below. Please note, routines are set off of 12 athletes but will be judges according to team size displayed. Do not feel obligated to use existing teams for your Summer League routines – sub in kids in different ages and levels to mix it up and have some fun!
There are three different levels of routines in Summer League to allow athletes to challenge themselves and interact with others.
Routines are approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds each. Teams can facilitate their own matches against teams in their program, other teams, in person or online — totally up to the team to decide!
*A very special thanks goes out to Jennifer Cooper of Big Red Choreography who created all three of the compulsory routines, to Steven Pawlyk of Innovative Performance Productions who created the custom music mixes, and to our demonstration teams from Cheer Express in Oldsmar, Florida.
Varsity All Star is providing a recommended scoring system for both Building & Non-Building routine styles. Modification to material or skills may result in a lower score per category. View the free Judges Training & Score Sheet video below.
