30th Anniversary of the National Dance Team Championship
2013 is an exciting year for the UDA National Dance Team Championship, as we celebrate the competition’s 30th anniversary! Since the championship’s start, the NDTC has always featured the best dance teams from across the nation, allowing them to exhibit their talents and perform in one of dance’s most exhilarating venues. The first national championship was held at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida, and as the competition continued to grow, a larger home was needed. The National Dance Team Championship now calls Walt Disney World home and hosts over 300 teams competing at this prestigious event!
Over the years, the NDTC has continued to introduce fresh and exciting ideas to make it the premier national championship for dance. In 2000, due to overwhelming competition growth, the varsity divisions were split into Large Varsity and Small Varsity. Additionally, as times have changed, so have the popular categories at the competition. Did you know there used to be a Large Prop Category and it was one of the most popular categories at the championship? In 2003, Universal Dance Association introduced the Hip Hop category at the NDTC, and it’s now one of the most popular categories and a crowd favorite.
This year, to commemorate the 30th anniversary, UDA is celebrating! Be on the lookout for some of the most memorable routines in history playing throughout the weekend, and remember to get your hands on the commemorative trading pin to mark the 30th anniversary. See you in Florida!
