What are the highlights of this year’s routine? We love our basket tosses! The crowd always goes crazy for them.
Does your team have any superstitions before they compete? We eat Pixie sticks, use good luck spray and always do a team prayer.
What is your goal at Worlds 2017? We are striving to make top 10!
As a coach, what advice do you give to your team before competing? Focus on the small things! Go out and show off all the hard work you’ve put into each practice!
Who/ what are your team’s biggest inspirations? This team has been inspired by the fact that they, as a team, have the opportunity to be a contender in this division.
What’s an interesting fact about your team? Fearless was a large team at KC Cheer in the past. We decided to step into a more challenging division where Fearless could make a name for themselves. It’s been a year of overwhelming change but these 19 girls have rose to the occasion and came to compete.
Top Gun Angels
Gym/ Team Name: Top Gun All Stars - Angels
Division: Small Senior, Level 5
City, State: Orlando, Florida
Coaches’ Names: Chris Tsanadis, Audrey Petterson, Madison Turchin & Jack Kidney
Competitions won in 2017: None (4th at Cheersport, 15th at NCA, 2nd at UCA)
Team Theme/ Motto this season: "Orlando Strong"
What are the highlights of this year’s routine? When the Pulse Nightclub tragedy happened in June, we decided we wanted to pay tribute to the victims, their families and the city of Orlando. The music in the first half of our Elite Stunt was made special and pays tribute to the victims. It says: "Your memory will live on, your pulse is beating strong, like Angels watching over me, in my heart you'll always be." We also have a big "Orlando Strong" banner that opens up before our basket toss sequence with music that says "WE ARE ORLANDO STRONG!" Another highlight of our routine is our dance section, which seems to be a crowd favorite.
Does your team have any superstitions before they compete? No, we've actually been trying to eliminate superstitions for everyone on the team. So, for example, if we had someone who thought they needed to wear their "lucky socks" to hit their routine, we'd make them wear different socks just to prove to themselves that they don't need certain socks to hit. It's in their training and muscle memory that makes them hit.
What is your goal at Worlds 2017? Our goal is to put on a show that leaves a lasting memory in people's minds. Have fun and execute the routine the way it's intended to be.
As a coach, what advice do you give to your team before competing? Take the floor feeling confident, and take each moment of the routine piece-by-piece, section-by-section. We remind then that they’re supposed to be doing this because you love it. So have a good time out there and perform like a superstar.
Who/ what are your team’s biggest inspirations? Coming off an Olympic summer, I'd say the USA Olympians in the 2016 Summer Olympics were a huge inspiration at the start of our season! Watching the worlds best athletes compete to be number one is incredibly inspiring. The fact that cheerleading is in the provisional stage of possibly becoming an Olympic sport is HUGE for cheer athletes because it gives them another level to strive toward.
What’s an interesting fact about your team? It's a very young team. Two-thirds of the team is 15 or younger. We're hoping to really grow together and be an even stronger force in the upcoming years.
Gym/ Team Name: Twisters Gold
Division: Small Senior 5
City, State: Cumming, Georgia
Coaches’ Names: Al Anderson, Caroline, Richardson, Josh Buck
Competitions won in 2017: We did not actually win any competitions this season. We moved from 5th to 2nd at Cheersport Nationals and we placed 5th out of 17 teams at UCA
Team Theme/ Motto this season: Page 57. We have had a number of different challenges to overcome this season and everyone seemed to be on a different page at different times. Our motto has been to get on the same page, no matter the number but to just be on the same page at the same time.
What are the highlights of this year’s routine? That is hard to pick. There are so many different things that we like about this routine. The jump section is pretty neat. We have really creative formation changes that make it fun to watch.
Does your team have any superstitions before they compete? As a team they do the same chant as well as talk and pray before they take the floor. As individuals they also have some crazy ones. Many of the girls have special handshakes they do with each other, some of these they have had for four to six years now. Some take four starbursts before they take the floor, one blesses the water they drink after warm-ups. One yells, “own the moment, do not let it own you” and some hold up hearts with their hands after that is said.
What is your goal at Worlds 2017? Our goal is to hit our routine and hopefully make it to the top 10.
As a coach, what advice do you give to your team before competing? Each time it is a little different depending on what has happened leading up to the event and what needs to be covered. I remind them each time to do their jobs. Each person is on the team for a reason. They all have a job they are there for and they need to give it their best. Do your job!
Who/ what are your team’s biggest inspirations? There are a number of teams the girls look up to for inspiration in our division as well as others. I would say that a huge part of their inspiration comes from Becky. She is a friend of ours who comes in once a week to talk to the team about life in general- how to handle certain situations with the team, each other, and just life in general. She ends each session with a prayer and the girls really look forward to her coming each week.
What’s an interesting fact about your team? Just about all of the girls on the team cheer Varsity competition for their local high school and have since they were freshman. They juggle a lot and all the while making good grades.
World Cup Odyssey:
Gym/ Team Name: World Cup Odyssey

Competitions won in 2017: Unfortunately it has not been a winning season for us this year thus far

What are the highlights of this year’s routine? Our basket tosses for sure! The execution is outstanding.
Does your team have any superstitions before they compete? I don’t believe that we have any major superstitions however they all do the same team huddle prior to each performance to gather their fears and wish them all away.
What is your goal at Worlds 2017? Our goal is to hopefully make Top 10!
As a coach, what advice do you give to your team before competing? I tell my team to take every skill one step at a time and enjoy the performance. Make it fun!
Who/ what are your team’s biggest inspirations? Our competitors inspire us. The small coed division has become one of the most competitive divisions on all of all-star cheerleading.
What’s an interesting fact about your team? Our 19- member team consists of athletes from four different states.
Top Gun OO5:
Gym/Team Name: Top Gun All Stars / OO5
Division: International Open Large Coed Level 5
City, State: Miami, FL
Coaches’ Names: Jose Gonzalez, Carlos Diaz, Victor Rosario
Competitions won in 2017: JAMFest Super Nationals, UCA International All Star Championship
Team Theme/Motto this season: Our Team Theme/Motto is “No Mo’ Fo’” (No more 4 as in “4th place” since we’ve missed making the cut as one of the top 3 US teams advancing to finals at Worlds by 1 spot every year but one since 2012.
What are the highlights of this year’s routine? We feel our choreography overall is our biggest highlight because each section flows extremely well into the next. Specifically though, we have 2 areas in our routine that really stand out. The first is a new inversion we came up with in our 2nd stunt sequence where the flyers start in a straight leg scorpion/needle, fall backwards into their bases’ arms while still holding their leg and flip around ending in a prone position. The second is a pyramid inversion we invented where the flyer begins in a heel stretch/leg grab tilt position like one might see in a dance routine and is then flipped by a guy at prep level into a very graceful, 1 1/4 back flip to a prone catch but the illusion created makes it appear to be a double flip.
Does your team have any superstitions before they compete? Our team always howls before going full out to signify their unity as a pack. Other than that, we all take a moment to pray to whomever/whatever each of us believes in and looks to for strength and guidance and ask for help staying focused, confident and most of all, safe during our performance.
What is your goal at Worlds 2017? Our goal at Worlds 2017 is to hit solid routines in prelims and semi finals, and be one of the top three US teams so we can make it into finals for the first time since 2010 and 2011 when we won this division back to back. Then, hit a 3rd routine and hopefully globe.
As a coach, what advice do you give to your team before competing? As coaches we advise our team to not let their minds get overwhelmed with thoughts of all the skills they have to perform in two minutes and 30 seconds, but instead to think of it as just a glorified practice. Take it one count at a time, savoring every moment. We also stress the importance of “mat talk” because it’s easier to give you’re all and keep pushing when you don’t feel like you’re out there alone.
Who/ what are your team’s biggest inspirations? Our team’s biggest inspirations are our loyal fans, both young and old who admire us and draw inspiration from the performances we put on the floor regardless of our placements. Also, our Fallen Jags, namely Omar Moreno for whom OO5 (Omar’s Open 5) was named and CHEESE FRIES!
What’s an interesting fact about your team? An interesting fact about our team this year is that we have a VERY diverse group of athletes. For some this is their first year on the team while others have been on it for 5-6 years. Some were pulled up from our level 4 team to compete level 5 for the first time in their careers while others have competed levels 5-6 all star, at the collegiate level and even for TEAM USA.
