What is the Camp Theme and what should we wear for Fun Day?

It’s up to YOU to MAKE IT COUNT! For 76 years, you have helped create NCA’s foundations of spirit, tradition and excellence. From the first cheerleading camp to the first spirit stick, you have helped NCA cultivate a culture of positivity and cheer. It’s up to YOU and your team on what to wear for fun day, but be sure to make it count!

What should we bring to camp?

  • Signs, poms, megs, flags for game day training
  • Addresses for St. Jude Letters
  • Spirit Exchange: As a part of our Team Time message, we are going to be doing a “Spirit Exchange” at every overnight camp. Teams need to bring something that their athletes can give to an athlete from another team during this time. It needs to be something representative of their program’s school colors, team motto, a quality they value, or something encouraging for another cheerleader. The entire team does not have to bring the same thing. Each person can bring their own idea of what the item should be, or you can turn it into a team bonding craft project prior to camp. The staff will be participating as well! In return, each cheerleader will receive an item from another team to take with them as well to remember the gift of spirit forever!

What do we do with our St. Jude Letters?

If your team has already ordered and filled out St. Jude Letters, bring them to camp! If your team has not already filled out St. Jude letters, please have each athlete bring two (2) addresses to camp. Remember that each athlete is required to fill out two (2) St. Jude letters for the NFHS Squad Credentialing program.

NFHS Squad Credentialing FAQs

Why did we create the Varsity Spirit/NFHS Squad Credentialing program?

The Varsity Spirit/NFHS Squad Credentialing Program is part of our quest to continually elevate the profile of cheerleaders, whether on campus, at a game or representing your school for any occasion. We are committed to offering comprehensive training to cheerleaders and coaches, and feel strongly that this is one more way we can ensure that all cheerleaders understand their role, and are knowledgeable about cheerleading safety. The program was created in collaboration with the National Federation and is comparable to some of their existing courses. This program will be implemented at Varsity Spirit camps, and is a requirement for participation at NCA High School Nationals.

What camps will provide Squad Credentialing?

All Varsity Spirit overnight camps, resort camps, home camps, day camps, choreography camp and virtual home camps that are at least two days long (this includes the 9 hour virtual home camp) will offer the NFHS Credential. Instruction time must be long enough for all elements of credentialing to be taught. Squad Credentialing at any Varsity Spirit brand camp (NCA, NCA Leadership, NCA Speed, NCA Choreography, UCA, USA, V!ROC and Premier Camps) will meet the requirement for participation at nationals. For instance, a team could go to USA Summer Camp and this would satisfy the NFHS Credential for NCA High School Nationals.

Who needs the NFHS Credential?

The Squad Credentialing program applies to all school, youth, club and rec teams that compete at NCA High School Nationals.

Can a team that didn’t go to a Varsity Spirit camp compete at a local competition?

Yes, and they would be able to receive a Bid to NCA Nationals, however, the NFHS credential will still need to be met.

What will the Squad Credentialing program be like at camp?

Camp attendees will be required to complete a five-part checklist that will cover their role as crowd leaders, spirit raisers, ambassadors, athletes and entertainers, with an emphasis on leadership and safety

At what point during camp does it happen?

It will happen throughout camp, in Team Time, Game Day Training, Stunt Class, etc., and be indicated on the schedule.

How many squad members need to attend camp?

We require that 75% of the members competing must have completed Squad Credentialing.

If my mascot competes with our team at Nationals, do they need the credential?

Yes, mascots fall under the 75% requirement, and are required to have attended Squad Credentialing.

What is the benefit of being credentialed?

We believe this program will help us all to elevate the profile of cheerleaders, whether on campus, at a game or representing your school for any occasion. It will also certify that all cheerleaders understand their role, and are knowledgeable about cheerleading safety.

USA Cheer Membership

All adults attending an overnight camp in an official capacity with the team, participating at camp and/or serving in a supervisory capacity of the team must have a USA Cheer Membership. This typically includes coaches, choreographers and chaperones.  The Cheer Coach Membership is recommended, but either the Cheer Coach, STUNT Coach or Professional Membership satisfies this requirement.  Membership is strongly recommended for all other coaches and team personnel that attend home camps, day camps and clinics.
