NDA Game Day

Game Day is the FEELING, the ATMOSPHERE and the overall EXPERIENCE created when a community rallies together in support of their school. The role of dancers in a Game Day situation is to support the student athletes and raise school spirit.

Attend an NDA Summer Camp and take part in our Game Day Implementation class, where we will teach dancers how to effectively lead the crowd through the use of The Big 3 of Game Day: Voice, Motions and Movement. Applying these techniques and tips is the best way to begin your season.

You learned it at camp and perfected it on the sidelines, now it’s time to showcase your school traditions and compete in the NDA Game Day division!

Your team will have the opportunity to take the floor for a total of 3 minutes to perform a Fight Song, Spirit Raising Performance and Performance Routine. Scoring is focused on synchronization, execution of movement, overall impression, game day material, audience connection, crowd interaction and choreography.

• The Fight Song section should contain skills and choreography that represents a traditional fight song teams perform at games and within the community.
• The Spirit Raising section should have an emphasis on crowd appeal. These routines are intended for quick, spur of the moment Game Day situations such as down time in between plays or a pause in the game.
• The Performance Routine section should showcase the team’s energy and connection to the crowd with a routine designed for entertainment in either Jazz, Pom, Hip Hop or Kick or any combination of these styles. This section is choreographed to a specific piece of music – band music or popular music is up to the team to choose.

Objective

To provide a unique and exciting opportunity for school Spirit Programs to work together to showcase their ability to promote school spirit and excitement in support of their school and its athletic teams. This division not only allows the use of traditional sideline cheer and dance teams, but also the incorporation of members of the school Marching Band, Pep Band, Drum Line, and Mascot(s). The primary responsibility of Spirit Programs is to develop and implement effective methods of generating excitement and often requires close coordination between various campus groups. NCA & NDA now offers a way to showcase this at the highest level on the largest stage in spirit competition at the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship.
