All-American Tryouts

Whether you are a seasoned veteran, or a first timer at camp, being selected as an All-American is a feeling that will truly last a lifetime.

Going through the All -American tryout process is exciting and nerve-racking! But don’t worry, during your tryout, your whole entire team will be in front of you cheering you on, giving you that extra boost of confidence! Ace your All-American tryout using the tips below!

Jumping Into the Tryout Process

The very first skill you will perform in front of the judges is your jump of choice. When you are deciding which jump you are going to perform, be sure to pick the jump that is the cleanest. The judges will be on the lookout for the technical side of the jump such as: pointed toes, sharp motions, motion placement and being able to land and stand without moving your feet.

Pro tip: We are looking for All-Americans that have a clean jump with level legs rather than loose motions and hyper-extended legs.

The Cheer (Tiger Nation)
After everyone in your group performs their jump, the announcer will ask you to get set for your cheer. If you have poms, you will pick them up during this time. The announcer will call from the mic “TIGER XX NATION”. You have the option to say Tiger or your own school mascot throughout the cheer!

Pro tip: Talk with your tryout group to decide which mascot you are going to yell so you aren’t thrown off by different mascots in the cheer!

The Dance (Rally Routine)

When the cheer is complete, the announcer will ask you to get set for your dance. At this point, you will set your poms down and wait for the music to start.

Pro tip: Don’t worry about hitting the correct ripples with the row you are trying out with, go on the ripple that you have been practicing and that you are most comfortable with!

Make Some Noise For the Boys

If you are a boy trying out for All-American, you will perform your jump of choice as well as the cheer. While the girls are dancing, you will step back, take a knee and watch. When the dance is over, you and your stunt partner will step forward and perform your stunt.

Pro tip: Perform a stunt that you know you can hit. Just like your jump, we are looking for a clean stunt that you can hit solid!

You’re An All-American! So, What’s Next?

Congratulations you are an All-American cheerleader! As an All-American, you have the opportunity to experience once in a lifetime trips to Disney, London and Rome just to name a few!

Don’t forget to buy all of your exclusive All-American gear to show off all of your hard work back in your hometown!

Personal Experience

As a senior in high school, I went on the London trip. Looking back, this experience is one that I will never forget. Walking through the parade route I felt like a celebrity! I will forever be thankful for the life-long friendships, connections and memories that will truly last a lifetime.

Not only have I been lucky enough to attend a special event in high school, I have had the opportunity to work the Citrus Bowl as a staff member. This experience was different from London, but just as fun! At the citrus bowl you perform pre-game in front of thousands of enthusiastic fans.

I will forever be grateful for the experiences I have received through All American! I know if you attend these trips too you will have the same life changing experiences and opportunities.

Good luck in your All-American tryout!
