LOCAL BUSINESS LEADER VARSITY RECEIVES VISIT FROM REPRESENTATIVE STEPHEN FINCHER

Varsity hailed as a leader in health and leadership for young athletes nationwide.

Memphis, Tenn., February 22, 2013—Local business Varsity, the leader in cheerleading and dance events, instruction and apparel, hosted U.S. Representative Stephen Fincher of Tennessee’s 8th District, in their East Memphis offices on Monday, February 19.

While at the Varsity headquarters, Rep. Fincher learned about the work that Varsity does with young people across the country, primarily young female athletes. While training 325,000 young people in essential cheerleading and dance skills at summer camps nationwide, Varsity also focuses on leadership, community-building and empowerment.

“Cheerleaders are leaders in their communities and schools, and we encourage them to use their high visibility to inspire others to positive action,” says Bill Seely, Senior Vice President, Training and Education for Universal Cheerleaders Association, the largest of the Varsity brands. “We work with young athletes to instill a love of service, a love of community and a love of an athletic lifestyle that will remain with them their entire lives. We are extremely pleased to share this mission with Rep. Fincher.”

After touring the Varsity office, Rep. Fincher met with Seely, Founder and CEO Jeff Webb and other senior staff members to talk about Varity’s mission of empowering and inspiring young women.

“I’m proud to have a great company like Varsity in my great state of Tennessee,” said Congressman Fincher. “The positive impact they have on hundreds of thousands of young people and their families each year is remarkable, and will have a lasting effect on their lives for years to come.”
