Sideline weather is cooling down in the South, but the cheerleading performances are still heating up the game. The University of Georgia Bulldogs are leading the school spirit for thousands of football fans in their hometown of Athens, Georgia, and we’ve got the deets on this team’s dynamic.

In total, the squad is made up of an impressive 40 athletes. Twenty young women make up the all-girl team, and an even split of 10 females and 10 males form the coed team. Their primary focus throughout the year is to raise UGA spirit and motivate the student body to rally around Bulldogs athletics — and boy do they rally.

The two teams spend a lot of time together at events, practices, and team-bonding activities, so it’s no wonder their tradition of a “family” mentality runs deep. The 26 returning cheerleaders are sure to carry on that expectation of excellence and team dedication.

Both teams work hard to perfect their skills and continue to improve. And every cheerleader is dedicated and motivated, whether it is his or her first year on the team or not. Led by captains Abigail Coppenger, Colby Sycoff, Alex Stephens, and Douglas Legg, the teams are looking to continually push their skills and game day presence moving forward into their season. Sycoff, who is a coed captain, gave us some insight on Georgia’s sideline game plan.

With many new rookie males on the team, they have been extremely dedicated to learning proper technique and new skills, which shows in their ability to hold stunts on the sidelines. The all-girl team also prides themselves in the stunting abilities, and they like to show their skills to the large crowds at football games.

For the teams and fans, one of the highlights of game day is right before kickoff. Colby told us what all the hype is about.

The team as a whole gets extremely excited to run out the football team during pregame at home games. Feeling the excitement from the 92,000 fans in Sanford Stadium screaming and chanting is such an adrenaline rush as the team sprints across the field. With the best and most dedicated fans in college football, it is so rewarding to lead the crowd throughout the entire game in cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs

A packed stadium, a great team dynamic, and superior sideline showmanship — doesn’t it sound great to be a Georgia Bulldog? You can cheer on the UGA Dawgs on game day by following them on Instagram! #GoDawgs
