Minnetonka Takes The Title At UCA Milwaukee!

The reigning national champs kept their win streak alive after taking home the title at UCA Milwaukee Championship! The Minnesota squad made their routine look effortless as they performed switch up libs with ease.

The team will now take the next two months to perfect their Small Varsity Non Tumbling routine before taking the mat at the 2018 UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, FL.

Five years and counting – that's how long attending the UCA Milwaukee Championship has been a tradition for the Minnetonka High School cheerleaders. This competition is known for bringing out the best in the midwest, and this competitive Non-Tumbling team always brings it.

Our team's style could be described as classy, traditional and collegiate.

The Skippers coach, Andre Brewer, explained. "We work hard to make the skills we show clean and as effortless as we can. We love showcasing the traditional aspects of cheerleading, but thoroughly enjoy adding new elements that are fun and contain a bit of flash. As coaches, we look forward to the stunt and pyramid progression sheets as well as the new cheer rules to come out every year so that we can challenge ourselves and the team to implement some of these skills. Our goal is to always add new skills while maintaining the classic Tonka look."

The theme that carried the Minnetonka Skippers through the 2016-17 season was "Do Betta!" but they're raising the bar with the challenge of doing "Mo Betta" in 2017-18. As you can tell these athletes and coaches have a sense of humor that goes along with their competitive edge.

"We use a song in the second half of this year's routine "Know No Better" to remind the girls to finish strong and to always do better than even they feel is possible during every practice, game or competition."

The team is looking to earn a bid to NHSCC 2018 in the coming months, and have about three more competitions ahead to warm up for the big stage in Orlando. With a fine reputation succeeding them, this team has a long road ahead as they work for their bid.
