#UCAstaff Camp Series: Texas State

Hey y’all my name is Jessica. I’m from Texas and have had a blast the past few summers traveling and teaching cheerleaders all over the state! I cannot wait to share some of my favorite memories from UCA Camp at Texas State with you!

UCA Camp is a place where teams come together to work towards one goal. Whether it is your first or last cheer camp, you come to camp as a team and leave as a family. UCA Camp is all about growth and setting your squad up for success in the upcoming season.

One of my favorite parts of being a UCA Staff member is getting to work with different teams throughout the days at camp and watch them grow in their stunting ability, material knowledge and overall confidence as a team and individual. Nothing truly beats the smile and look on someone’s face when they accomplish that new stunt they never thought they would be able to hit.

I was fortunate enough to kick off my summer at Texas State University, the college I currently attend! Texas State UCA Camps are always filled with so much energy and excitement as there is often a great mixture of Junior High and High School teams.  I really love the age range because it allows the athletes who are younger, and often newer to cheerleading, the opportunity to learn from the more experienced athletes. It also gives the veterans an opportunity to be role models for the upcoming generation of cheerleaders.

A fan favorite, long-standing tradition we have on the first night at every Texas State UCA Camp is BBQ night! Being from Texas, I love BBQ and it makes camp feel like you’re not that far away from home. Who doesn’t love a good full plate of brisket, beans and potato salad?

This past summer, I was able to work with Marion and Hardin Junior High as their big sister. Both squads from day one were so much fun and we always had a blast working together. I loved watching them grow more and more confident each day in themselves and each other which lead them to a fantastic final day performance.

Texas State UCA Summer Camps are always one for the books. I hope you get to stop by next summer and say howdy! Until then, thanks for reading y’all! – @UCAjessica
